Slow Monday in Florence

I decided to get up early and head north, to Florence once again. First, I wanted to take my time through the city and second, get my bearings at the bus and train station. The weather has been cooler but it did heat up to normal (over 90, oh my goodness!) today. The tourists were few and so walking around was not as cumbersome as my first trip there last week.

For would be travelers to Florence by bus: It drops you off about two blocks from the center of the city. Not a bad drop off location at all. However, the return busses are hidden, behind a hotel in sort of an arena setting. Very strange, but the folks there are helpful. I went around the block twice before looking into what I thought was a parking garage and there it was...the bus terminal.

I visited the Museo d'Opera today. It was the history of the Duomo construction. Very interesting. I also wandered through the market again and could not get over all the fur coats on sale right now. Argh. About half of the shops were open...Monday's are hit and miss for open shops.

Tomorrow, I taking my first train trip. I have not decided yet, but I am going to Rome or Arrezzo to catch a bus to Cortona. Either way, I am on a train baby! It helped that I got to see the station, how it worked, etc.. It is pretty stressful being in a new place and not speaking the language but I feel more confident than ever! Wish me luck.
